PORTLANDFOLDINGBIKES.NET
Portland Oregon's focal point for Montague, Paratrooper and Swissbike folding bikes.
If you were referred here by our craigslist ad, feel free to call the number or send an email to the contact info that you were already given. Otherwise, please use portlandfoldingbikes@yahoo.com as a contact address. Call (503) 680-7953.
Our prices include delivery to your location, initial setup, adjustments, and an orientation with the rider at the time of the delivery. These services are not included on bikes shipped outside the area, but I will be glad to offer assistance by phone. All you really need to properly unpack and assemble and tune the bike is a set of metric allen wrenches, the open end wrench included with the bike, and a Leatherman or similar tool. Once the bike is set up, it can be broken down and folded easily for transport and reassembly will not require tools. Several people have videos of this process posted at youtube.com, just do a search for "montague bikes" and watch any one of the several videos to see the process. Local calls (503) 680-7953 Cash, personal and business checks OK on most domestic orders. Most orders ship within 24 hours, Local deliveries can go faster than that as they come out of local inventory.

A note from the owner: As a former servicemember, I strive to offer the best possible service and military discounts. When I ran savvysurvivor.com I regularly expedited orders to deployed troops in Europe, Iraq and Afghanistan. Recent changes and weight limits in APO/FPO handling of the large bike packages have been making it difficult recently to get the bikes through. If you are in the military and thinking about getting one of these bikes for deployment, they are worth it and hold up well in the desert environment. My best suggestion is to order it while you are home on leave and it will be shipped by fedex ground to your stateside address at no extra charge. Unfortunately, due to the extra work and cost involved with overseas shipment, I have to charge extra now in order to get a bike shipped to an overseas APO/FPO. The cost of this is now $300 and I will include specialized tools for reassembly. Under these circumstances, the only bike I will reccomend for this is going ot be the Paratrooper series, either the standard or the pro model.
Law enforcement / GS pricing: No discounts for law enforcement or other government agency pricing, no "net 30" contract pricing or volume discounts to non-charitable government organizations.
Military servicemember pricing: I offer discounts for current active duty, reserve, National Guard personnel. This is not an "associate" discount for extended family unless the servicemember is making the purchase or in some cases, I can verify that the item is being purchased as a gift for a servicemember.
School pricing; The exception I make for government organizations, schools (public or private) organizing group purchase or sales of the bikes are eligible for special pricing on orders of three or more bikes.
Wholesale pricing: Available strictly on multiple unit orders, with a minimum purchase of three bikes. I offer warranty support and delivery for dealers in the Portland Oregon general area.

The Paratrooper 24 speed mountain bike. The ultimate in functionality and durability.
USUALLY AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE DELIVERY AS THIS IS THE MOST POPULAR MODEL FOR MY CUSTOMERS. Call or email for best current price which varies a little bit depending on stock in hand, with standard models starting at $799, Also available, Paratrooper PRO model with enhanced component content which surpasses military standards but still has the military style. MSRP $1049 usually available on 24 to 48 hour notice.
portlandfoldingbikes@yahoo.com (503) 680-7953 Prices include shipping in most of the USA. Includes delivery, assembly and adjustments in the Portland metro area.
The last of the 2009 models are now sold out and we are fully into the 2011 models, with the new specifications listed to the right. The big difference now is that all Paratroopers now come with an improved dual disk brake system, no more rim grabber brakes. This can cause issues with electric drive installation and if you are looking to have an electric drive Montague mountain bike, I highly suggest going with the MX which has most of the features of the earlier Paratroopers, but comes with rim grabber brakes which are compatible with most electric drive assist systems. portlandfoldingbikes@yahoo.com for availability info |

Folding Pedals (these will be in addition to whichever type of pedals come with your bike).
$35
The factory carrying case is NOT a heavy duty military item, but it is made from water resistant nylon and comes with a carry strap that attaches directly to your bike. It is good for keeping your bike clean and seperated from things that might snag on it when stored or carried in a vehicle. The carrying case folds up into a pretty small package when not in use. $95
Shipping policies:
Shipping by UPS, Personal Delivery, or Fedex Ground is included in the price of these bikes in the Western States. Other parts of the Continental US will be billed no more than $25 extra for shipping. Personal delivery includes unpacking, assembly and installation of accessories at the buyer's option. Returns for exchange only, it is our option to replace or repair warranty items (we usually just replace them). The postal service is getting resistant to shipping these bikes to APO/FPO addresses, but sometimes small town and base post offices are pretty helpful with this. I used to ship these from a veteran run post office in Coquille Oregon and sometimes Coos Bay where nobody bitched about the packages being a little bit overweight or dimension when going to an APO/FPO, but here in Portland, well, they are not so cooperative and I think maybe not so sympathetic to getting stuff like this to the troops on deployment. The best I can do at this point is no additional shipping charges to ship these to any US base that is serviced by Fedex. I am told this change was brought about at the insistence of some postal inspector supervisors in Portland, but I also had some serious mail interference in Eugene Oregon also. Given the theft of several mail items I suffered from Portland and Eugene in the last five years, they obviously have theor priorities warped, but that's federal law enforcement for you. Likewise, I can no longer accept cash payment for merchandise by mail as even the registered mail became unreliable for that.
Overseas shipping cost is usually a flat $475, however this requires the bike to be broken down and shipped in three seperate packages. The original shipping carton for the bike is destroyed in this process and the irregular package made for overseas shipment is constructed to be as compact as possible, with flaps allowing for customs inspection to be through a hole in the package, due to the fact that it is made as compact as possible to save shipping charges, the custom package for the frame assembly is not likely to be reusable. The warranty on the bike also becomes void as part of the disassembly process, so the customs value of the bike is lower than for a new bike. Warranty for individual parts remains in effect, and the packages are insured against damage in route. The wheels are the most problematic of the three packages to ship under these circumstances, thus if you want any of the Montague models wihtout the wheels, the price will be reduced by $175. You would still get the tires and hub assemblies, just not the spokes or rims on the reduced cost deal.
Internationa orders:Terms are subject to variables due to banking, credit card, check use and exchange rates. Please email portlandfoldingbikes@yahoo.com for details. Due to this being my personal business and the lack of insurance coverage for overseas credit card fraud, I usually require verified payment before shipment. The lowest cost way to handle this is through a bank wire transfer. I may also use a third party credit card processor who will charge extra fees.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING - Due to my agreement with the folks at Montague, I am only the reccomended dealer for the Portland Oregon metropolitan area (Northern Oregon, Southern Washington State, however I retain the right to sell these bikes to any other customer in the USA. I also may ship the bikes internationally only for those customers who have exhausted their efforts to find the same models available locally at competitive prices from a certified Montague dealer.
The normal shipping crate for a Montague Bike or Swissbike is 50 lbs and is constructed of double wall cardboard which is capable of withstanding all but the most brutal shipping conditions (the normal packaging is engineered to withstand paratroop supply drop operations). The crate is roughly 33" X 33" X11", and thus very costly to ship as a single unit overseas with Fedex rates often being over $1000 just for shipping to Europe or Asia. I have found an alternate method of shipping the bikes to Europe and Asia by disassembling the bike into component parts which will fit into smaller packages. This requires specialized tools and skill in a service which is not provided by any of the Internet drop shippers that I know of, and is not provided by the Montague direct sales. I handle this arrangement only in circumstances where a buyer does not have reasonable access to a regular Montague distributor. The process of detailed disassembly and overseas shipment will void the warranty on the bike and components, but I inspect each component before shipment to insure quality control. I can also include the necessary specialized tools for reassembly at the destination. I also provide technical assistance via the Internet on reassembly of the bike.
Repackaging the bike into three packages requires the construction of two specialized packages made into irregular shapes in order to reduce the shipping size of the component parts. The two irregular packages are not resusable the way the original shipping crate is. The third package will be a common cardboard box, The use of priority airmail in this shipping method gives a total transaction turnaround time of around ten days on average for shipments throughout the industrialized world where normal mail systems operate. The maximum shipping time we have experienced has been two weeks due to some customs delays in Russia, but the bike arrived to the customer with no damage. Other successful shipments have gone to Iraq and Afghanistan (to military personnel), Russia, Australia, Hong Kong and mainland China. The worst customs experience I have had so far involved Canadian customs agents charging a client a customs duty based on the full retail catalog price of an item.
The United States mail service offers standardized rates for shipment of the component packages by priority mail, and due to the predictable consistency of these shipping rates, I offer shipment of any Montague or Swissbike model at $450 for overseas priority mail shipment to anywhere on the planet. The shipping charge of $475 is in addition to the cost of the bike, regardless of the model as all of the bikes are fairly close in size and weight for shipment purposes. Understand that shipment under these circumstances is a one way trip, no returns, and warranty service will be limited to technical assistance via the Internet and if necessary, reduced pricing on replacement component parts if necessary (it has not been necessary yet). Due to the warranty being voided and the bicycle being shipped into three incomplete packages, and the extra work required for assembly, customs paperwork will reflect the reduced value of the bike, since the bike meets the standard of a used item once it is removed from the factory packaging and disassembled for overseas shipment.
